The National Weather Service forecast calls for high temperatures Wednesday from the mid-90s in the northeast to near 110 degrees in the central part of the state.
The media reports that several schools in the Aberdeen and Rapid City areas are closing in the early afternoon.
Rapid City Superintendent Tim Mitchell says that when temperatures surpass 90 degrees in classrooms with no air conditioning, there are concerns about stress on students and teachers.
