Mitchell Mayor Ken Tracy has changed his office hours. Tracy said he will start working from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. He had been working from 8 a.m. until noon since he took office in July.
The change to afternoon hours started Monday. The mayor alerted city department heads of the change.
“It just works better for me,” Tracy said. “I’m just switching from morning to afternoon is all.”
He said he goes to the Recreation Center in the mornings to work out and then is at his desk at 1 p.m.
Tracy also chairs City Council meetings on the first and third Mondays of each month, as well as special meetings. He is also chairman of the City Hall Relocation Committee and attends Planning and Zoning Commission meetings as well.
“Haven’t missed one yet,” Tracy said.
He said he has been working 30 to 35 hours per week in his first two months as mayor.
That may drop back to 25 to 30 hours a week, he said, since budget hearings and council discussions on major city projects led to some long meetings. The job is considered a part-time post, with the mayor paid $23,484.
The City Council members are each paid $8,089. Tracy and all eight of the councilmen will receive a cost-of-living-allowance pay increase on Jan. 1, according to Finance Officer Marilyn Wilson.
That figure will be set once the council sets the COLA increase for all city staff.
