Kernels lose a pair of matches in Brookings

BROOKINGS — The Mitchell High School girls’ tennis team lost a pair of matches Saturday at the Brookings Jamboree.

BROOKINGS — The Mitchell High School girls’ tennis team lost a pair of matches Saturday at the Brookings Jamboree.

Mitchell was swept 9-0 by Watertown and was beat by Brookings 8-1.

Mitchell’s No. 1 doubles team of Courtney Wells and Chelsea Kracht picked up the Kernels’ lone win on the day. They beat Brookings Lydia Lucchesi and Emma Lucchesi 8-5.

Wells and Kracht lost in the No. 1 doubles flight against Watertown 9-8 (8-6).

Mitchell moves to 1-3 on the season and is 0-2 in the Eastern South Dakota Conference. The Kernels are in action next when they host a home triangular against Pierre and Yankton starting at noon on Friday.
