MTI official wins award for service

Scott Fossum, dean of enrollment and postsecondary career coordinator at Mitchell Technical Institute, was recently presented with the Carl Perkins Outstanding Service Award by the South Dakota Association of Teachers of Family and Consumer Sciences (SDATFACS).
The award was presented at the annual SDATFACS conference held in July in Pierre.
The Carl Perkins award is given to recognize individuals who have made contributions to the improvement, promotion and development of career and technical education.
Fossum has been the tech prep coordinator/post-secondary career coordinator at MTI since 1999, and for the last three years, has also served as the dean of enrollment.
He has helped develop South Dakota’s first Senior Project Framework and has conducted career exploration opportunities for high school students at numerous career expos and MTI events.
Fossum is a native of Canton and is a graduate of Augustana College and the University of South Dakota. He and his wife, Sonya, have two children: Christian and Elizabeth.
