DSU opens against Peru State Saturday

MADISON— Dakota State University football team opens its season by hosting Peru State College Saturday at 4 p.m. at Trojan Field.

MADISON— Dakota State University football team opens its season by hosting Peru State College Saturday at 4 p.m. at Trojan Field.

DSU finished last year’s season with a record of 1-10 with its only victory over Briar Cliff University on Oct. 9. Peru State finished 2-8 on the season.

The two opponents will meet for the first time since 1972. Peru State leads the all-time series 2-1.

DSU head coach Josh Anderson is in his fourth season, while PSC head coach Steve Schneider is in his second season with the Bobcats.

DSU’s captains are seniors quarterback Brandon Large, linebacker Eric Liles, running back John Niesen and defensive end Blake Schlagel.

Last year, Large broke the school record in most passing attempts (405), completions (228) and most total offensive yards (2,512) in a single season. He also tied the DSU’s record twice for the most pass completions in a single game with 31.

This year, Liles was named to the 2012 Beyond Sports Nework NAIA Preseason All-American second team. During the 2011 season, Liles lead the team with 94 tackles.
