This is a banner week in Mitchell, and the many people who are behind it deserve credit.
Begin with Dakotafest, the annual farm show that’s held each August on the southeast side of town.
Although the drought has ruined much of the corn crop, we happily note that attendance at Dakotafest is running at an all-time high. An event coordinator told The Daily Republic Wednesday that Wednesday’s attendance was exceptional – the best ever.
Also Wednesday was the annual Miller Lite Bull Bash, held at the rodeo grounds. Although this piece was written before the event began, we can only suspect it drew a large crowd. Everybody, it seems, loves the bulls at a rodeo.
Wednesday, the final touches were being put on the setup of the Corn Palace Festival carnival on Main Street. Once again, we pay homage to our agricultural heritage with the annual festival. The festival’s series of music concerts began Wednesday and continue through Sunday.
Saturday, the 18 th annual Tour de Corn will be held, with dozens of bicycle riders taking part.
In addition to all of these activities, high school sports kicked off this week.
Yes, it’s a wonderful week to live in Mitchell and the region.
We urge readers to take participate in at least one of these great events. So many people have put in countless hours planning and preparing for these entertainment options.
They all deserve credit for helping keep Mitchell vibrant, relevant and fun in these waning weeks of summer
