FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Dakotas-based Sanford Health is offering $15,000 bonuses to recruit registered nurses in Fargo to address a shortage of experienced nurses.

The bonuses are for nurses who have at least two years of experience and commit to stay at least three years. Sanford tells The Forum newspaper that the unusual incentive has helped recruit about two dozen nurses.

Carla Hansen, Sanford's chief nursing executive in Fargo, says the hospital is seeing more patients, and that experienced nurses are needed more because of the increasingly sophisticated technology used in health care.
