Davison County Treasurer-elect Christie Gunkel returned home Sunday after spending time in a Sioux Falls hospital recovering from a stroke.
Gunkel was taken by ambulance Wednesday to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls after she suffered a stroke as a result of an artery tear caused by a chiropractic neck adjustment.
The stroke affected her balance and caused severe pain in the right side of her head, Gunkel said in a short interview with The Daily Republic Sunday.
However, she said she was told by medical staff not to expect any long term affects.
She does not expect the incident to affect her ability to take over as treasurer next year.
“I will be ready to go Jan. 2,” Gunkel said.
