Corsica headed to semifinals of Class B VFW 15-16 state tourney
PLATTE — Corsica’s teener baseball team recorded 14 runs on 11 hits and the team went on to a mercy-rule victory over Kimball/White Lake 14-4 in the first round of the Class B VFW tournament Friday in Platte.

Daniel Van Zee drove in three runs on four hits and scored once while Kade Rexwinkel was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored for Corsica. The team also got two hits from Tanner Van Genderen and Bailey Lagge in the win.
Allen Muilenburg was the winning pitcher, throwing four shutout innings and recording seven strikeouts while allowing two hits.
Jace Pulse suffered the loss on the mound for Kimball/White Lake. He allowed 10 runs on nine hits and four walks in 2 2/3 innings. He finished with two strikeouts.
Riley Talbott drove in two runs in the loss.
Kimball/White Lake takes on Alcester/Hudson on the consolation side of the bracket at noon today in Platte while Corsica faces off against Warner in the semifinals at 5:30 p.m. in Platte.
Elkton 10, Mount Vernon 2
PLATTE — Jordan Beck allowed two runs in the sixth inning, but that was it as Elkton’s teener baseball team beat Mount Vernon 10-2 in the opening round of the Class B VFW tournament Friday in Platte.
Beck struck out three, walked six and gave up three hits in the complete-game win.
Deric Denning took the loss for Mount Vernon, allowing one earned run on three hits and three walks in four innings. He struck out 10 and was Mount Vernon’s leading hitter, going 2-for-2 with a double.
Defensive struggles cost Mount Vernon as four errors led to nine unearned runs in the loss. The team takes on Platte in the consolation round at 2:30 p.m. today in Platte.
Elkton advances to take on Flandreau in the semifinals at 8 p.m. today in Platte.
Warner 12,
Alcester/Hudson 3
PLATTE — Kade Hallenbeck pitched all seven innings as Warner defeated Alcester/Hudson 12-3 in first-round action at the Class B VFW teener baseball tournament Friday in Platte.
Hallenbeck allowed three runs on six hits and struck out 10. Brady Hallenbeck led Warner offensively with a 2-for-3 game, scoring three runs and driving in two.
Grant Johnson was the losing pitcher, giving up five runs on four hits and two walks in four innings.
Johnson and Colin Walth both finished 2-for-3 at the plate for Alcester/Hudson, which takes on Kimball/White Lake at noon today. Warner faces off with Corsica in the semifinals at 5:30 p.m. in Platte.
Flandreau 10, Platte 2
PLATTE — Flandreau scored five fifth-inning runs to pull away from Platte in a first-round Class B state teener baseball tournament game Friday.
Flandreau’s Tim Parsley was the winning pitcher, throwing six innings and allowing three hits and two earned runs.
Platte pitcher Nate Spawn took the loss, throwing six innings and allowing 12 hits and eight earned runs. He struck out seven and had two of Platte’s three hits at the plate.
Flandreau was led offensively by Geno Burshiem, who had two hits and two RBIs.
Platte plays Mount Vernon at 2:30 p.m. today, while Flandreau plays Elkton at 8 p.m. today.
