BROOKINGS (AP) — The Brookings County courthouse is getting a $1 million spruce-up.
County commissioners accepted bids this week for the project, and it will begin soon. Officials say the first and second floors of the courthouse will be remodeled in two phases. The work should be finished by April.
The project calls for the courthouse to be refurbished and replacing the windows.
The media reports that the $1 million cost doesn't include the cost of removing any lead-based paint. A commission assistant says there is some lead paint in a basement storage area, but it shouldn't be too expensive to take out.
County officials are still waiting for the results of testing for lead-based paint in other parts of the courthouse.
