Mitchell man gets prison for 4th DUI

A 44-year-old man will serve concurrent prison terms for fourth-offense drunken driving and for violating probation terms from his previous drunken driving conviction.
Robert Burton Thompson, Mitchell, was arrested March 25 in Hanson County after he was found driving with multiple open alcohol containers inside and a blood alcohol content of 0.171.The legal limit for driving in South Dakota is 0.08.
At the time of the arrest, Thompson was on probation for his third DUI, which occurred in May 2010 in Davison County.
Thompson was recently sentenced to three years in prison with 18 months suspended for his fourth DUI by Judge Cheryle Goehring in Hanson County.
Thompson had a two-year prison sentence reinstated Tuesday for violating the conditions of his probation in Davison County. In June, he admitted to the Hanson County DUI arrest, two more violations for not completing a treatment program and failing to pay fines and court costs from previous convictions.
Thompson will serve the two prison terms concurrently.
