PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. — Tevyn Waddell finished third in overall points in the 13-14 girls’ division as eight Mitchell Aquatic Club swimmers competed at the Zones swim meet over the weekend in Pleasant Prairie, Wis.

Waddell was one point away from second in overall points and finished in the top eight in all of her races and had a second-place finish in the 100-meter backstroke.

“I thought she could place well in some of her better events,” MAC coach Kyle Margheim said. “But I didn’t think she would make top eight in every one of her events.

“And to get third in points wasn’t even something we were thinking about.”

Waddell broke three South Dakota state records with her performances in the 200-freestyle, 200-backtroke and 100-backstroke.

Other swimmers to compete in the event were Karlie Brown, Gray Determan, Christian Fossum, Ethan Huber, Gage Nelson and Cailey Scott.

Fossum broke four team records in the 13-14 boys’ division with his finishes in the 100-butterfly, 200-butterfly, 400-freestyle and 400-individual medley.

“Everytime he’s at a meet, it seems like he’s making big strides,” Margheim said. “It’s just fun to watch him improve like that after he works so hard.”

Other team records broken included Huber in the 11-12 boys’ 200-backstroke, Nelson in the 11-12 boys’ 200-breaststroke and Scott in the 11-12 girls’ 200-backstroke.

“It was good to see them swim well, especially for those younger swimmers,” Margheim said. “It makes me excited to see the future of MAC with them coming up.”

The summer season ended for all MAC swimmers with the event. The athletes are off until winter season practices start in the middle of September with meets starting back up in November.
