Shanard honored with flags at half-staff

PIERRE (AP) — Gov. Dennis Daugaard is asking that all flags in South Dakota be flown at half-staff on Tuesday to honor former state Sen. George Shanard.

PIERRE (AP) — Gov. Dennis Daugaard is asking that all flags in South Dakota be flown at half-staff on Tuesday to honor former state Sen. George Shanard.

Shanard died Friday at age 86. His funeral is Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in Mitchell.

The Mitchell businessman served in the South Dakota Senate from 1975-1992. He was the Republican majority leader from 1989-1992.
