SIOUX FALLS (AP) — Diabetes research at Sanford Health has entered an important new stage.
Researchers want to know if a combination of two drugs will help diabetics stabilize their blood sugar, and eliminate the need for insulin shots.
They’ve signed up 54 patients for a clinical trial. They are diabetics aged 11 to 45, and it took a year and a half to put the group together. A second trial with 60 patients will start early next year. Sanford began the project in 2008. Several other research projects are pursuing the same goal. Results of the first trial won’t be announced for several months.
