LETTER: McLaughlin is wrong; abortion is murder

To the Editor:
Kristi McLaughlin says abortion is not murder. She gave several definitions by the Hebrew as to what life is. They don’t believe that life starts until birth. Talmud’s quote: “the fetus is deemed to be part and parcel of the pregnant woman’s body.”
Is the Talmud gospel? What about the Bible? Leviticus 17:11: “For the life of the flesh is in the blood.” Does the fetus have living blood within it?
Were John the Baptist and Jesus considered “thighs of their mothers”? If so, why did John leap in Elizabeth’s womb when coming close to Jesus who was in Mary’s? (Luke 1:41, 44)
Kristi compared the life of a convicted murderer with the life of an innocent fetus. Again, what does the Bible say? In Numbers 35:16-18 it states three times that if a person kills another, taking from the innocent person his life, “the murderer shall surely be put to death.” It then goes on to say that “the revenger of blood” shall be the one who does it. With the huge number of people throughout the world, a different system has been in place and is carried out by the state.
She’s right; it’s hard to stand by as the murderer is executed and do nothing about it, especially when years lapse between the crime and the punishment. The horror of his crime has dimmed in people’s minds. The death penalty goes against all that is decent within one’s soul. God created us to live forever. But, until sin is totally eradicated, something must be done to curb these heinous crimes.
Not only is our wonderful Creator and Savior kind and loving, He is also wise and just. What has to be done has to be done.
