Mitchell White wins 9-6 in state tourney

HURON — Spencer Neugebauer had two doubles, two RBIs and a stolen base as Mitchell White defeated Aberdeen 9-6 in pool play at the 13-14 AA minors state teener baseball tournament Friday in Huron.

HURON — Spencer Neugebauer had two doubles, two RBIs and a stolen base as Mitchell White defeated Aberdeen 9-6 in pool play at the 13-14 AA minors state teener baseball tournament Friday in Huron.

White got out to an early lead with five runs in the second and held on late for the victory.

Sam Michels got the win on the mound, allowing two runs in four innings and striking out five. Jacob Dahme pitched the final three frames for Mitchell.

Josh Loecker was 2-for-2 with two stolen bases in the win. He scored twice and drove in one.

Mitchell White (25-14) takes on Sioux Falls East at 1 p.m. and Watertown at 6:30 p.m. today in Huron to finish off its pool play.

Mitchell Gray falls to Yankton in state opener

HURON — Mitchell Gray was scheduled to play two games Friday in the 13-14 AA minors state teener baseball tournament in Huron, but rain only allowed the team to get one game in.

Mitchell dropped its first game of pool play 15-0 to the Yankton Reds. Wyatt Smith pitched three innings in the loss.

Smith and Russell Duley each finished 1-for-1 in the game.

The team’s game against Sioux Falls Central has not had a time set for the make-up game. Gray (3-28) takes on Huron at 9 p.m. today in Huron.
