Corsica downs Colome 8-4 for 4B title

GREGORY — Corsica defeated Colome 8-4 Thursday in the VFW 15-16 Region 4B baseball tournament championship game for a berth to the state tournament.

Corsica’s Daniel Van Zee was the winning pitcher and Nick Blom went 3-for-5 at the plate.

Corsica’s next action will be at the Class B state varsity tournament in Platte, starting Aug. 10. Platte, which is also in Region 4B, also will be playing in the tournament with the automatic hosting bid.

To get to the championship game, Colome beat Gregory 9-3 Thursday. Terrance Kinzer was the winning pitcher.

Corsica 11, Gregory 10

GREGORY — Corsica earned its way into the Region 4B teener baseball championship with an 11-10 victory over Gregory Tuesday in Gregory.

Tanner VanGenderen got the win on the mound. He relieved starting pitcher Nick Blom.

Colome 9, Platte-Geddes 1

GREGORY — Colome eliminated Platte-Geddes from the Region 4B 15-16 teener baseball tournament with a 9-1 win Tuesday in Gregory.

Chase Hrabanek threw all nine innings in the victory.

Colome 15, Avon 0

GREGORY — Avon was knocked out of the Region 4B teener baseball tournament as Colome won a 15-0 game Tuesday in Gregory.

Terrance Kinzer pitched three innings and recorded the win.

Corsica 9, Platte-Geddes 2

GREGORY — Corsica defeated Platte-Geddes 9-2 in the opening round of the Region 4B 15-16 teener baseball tournament Monday in Gregory.

Allen Muilenburg picked up the win for Corsica, throwing all seven innings.

Gregory 7, Colome 1

GREGORY — Gregory beat Colome 7-1 to advance on the winner’s bracket side of the Region 4B teener baseball tournament Monday in Gregory.

Paull Taggart got the win on the mound. He threw all seven innings.

Corsica 8, Avon 5

GREGORY — Tanner VanGenderen and Daniel Van Zee teamed up on the mound to help Corsica to an 8-5 win over Avon in the Region 4B teener baseball tournament Monday in Gregory.

VanGenderen got the win after pitching the first three innings while Van Zee threw the final four frames.
