Crofton cruises past Garretson in first round

Defending South Dakota Class B amateur baseball champion Crofton, Neb., cruised to a first-round victory over Garretson 10-3 Friday.
Scott Donner was the winning pitcher on Cadwell Park’s pitching mound, throwing all nine innings and allowing five hits and two earned runs. He walked three and struck out eight.
Donner hit two home runs and had four hits with three RBIs. Carl Schieffer had three hits for Crofton, which finished with 16 hits in the game.
Kyle Mueller, Nick Hegge and Rand Rygeson each had two hits.
Garretson’s Brad Donavon pitched eight innings and took the loss. He allowed 12 hits, seven earned runs and he struck out three.
Ryan Breitling and Dan Bonte each had two hits for Garretson, which scored two first-inning runs and didn’t plate another run until the bottom of the ninth.
Crofton advances to play Larchwood, Iowa, at 8 p.m. Monday at Cadwell Park in a second-round game.
