Arson trial delayed for couple accused of burning own business

TYNDALL (AP) — Trial has been delayed for a Nebraska couple accused of trying to burn down their South Dakota business.

Charles and Kimberly Johnson, of Niobrara, Neb., have pleaded not guilty to second-degree arson and reckless burning. Each could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

Their week-long trial was to begin Aug. 13 in Tyndall. The media reports that it has been postponed until Jan. 28 to give their attorneys more time to prepare.

The couple is charged in an October 2010 fire that destroyed two downtown Springfield businesses, including their steakhouse, and damaged a third business.
