ABERDEEN (AP) — Former Northern State University men's basketball coach Don Meyer is recovering in a Minneapolis-area hospital after having a heart pacemaker implanted.

His wife, Carmen, tells the media that the surgery on Wednesday went well.

Meyer also recently had three heart valves replaced with mechanical ones and had a hole in his heart repaired. His heart problems are related to cancer that doctors discovered after a 2008 car accident that cost Meyer part of his left leg.

Meyer retired from coaching two years ago with an NCAA record 923 victories.
