Mount Vernon teeners win Region 2B title

MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon claimed the Region 2B teener baseball championship with a 14-13 win over Kimball/White Lake Wednesday in Mount Vernon.
Joe Davis got the win in relief. He pitched the final three innings and allowed two runs on two hits while striking out one.
Deric Denning had three hits, including two doubles, while Cody Renken and Bryce Erickson each added two hits for Mount Vernon. Renken had a double in the game.
Hayden Thiry suffered the loss on the mound, striking out four in a complete-game effort.
Ethen Gaulke and Corbin Heath both had two hits for Kimball/White Lake.
Both teams qualified for the state tournament, which begins on Aug. 10 in Platte.

MOUNT VERNON — Kimball/White Lake advanced to the championship of the Region 2B teener baseball tournament with a 10-1 win over Ethan Tuesday in Mount Vernon.
Jace Pulse was the winning pitcher, throwing three scoreless innings and giving up three hits. He struck out three.
Jason Steckley, Hayden Thiry, Pulse and Ryan Glissendorf all had two hits for Kimball/White Lake in the win.
Jordan Grosdidier singled twice for Ethan, which ended its season with the loss. Grosdidier took the loss on the mound, allowing seven runs on four hits in three innings and striking out one.
Mount Vernon 14, Ethan 1
MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon locked up a berth into the state tournament with a 14-1 win over Ethan in the Region 2B teener baseball tournament Tuesday in Mount Vernon.
Mount Vernon won the winner’s bracket side of the tournament and put itself in a position to need one win in two games to claim the region championship.
Deric Denning was the winning pitcher over Ethan, striking out eight in four innings. He allowed three hits while recording three hits at the plate, including a home run and a double.

Highmore 0
MOUNT VERNON — Kimball/White Lake eliminated Highmore from the Region 2B teener baseball tournament with a 17-0 win Tuesday in Mount Vernon.
Jason Steckley picked up the win on the mound, throwing all three innings of the game and striking out six without allowing a hit.
Riley Talbott and Hayden Thiry each had two hits in the game for Kimball/White Lake.
