WASHINGTON — Chamberlain native Rachel Knust, 26, has been hired as Sen. John Thune’s press secretary.

“I’m pleased to have Rachel in this new role and look forward to her contributing to the press operation,” Thune said in a press release. “With strong South Dakota roots and both legislative and communication experience in the Senate, Rachel is well equipped to hit the ground running.”

Knust declined to be interviewed by The Daily Republic. She is the granddaughter of car dealer Harry “K” Knust and the daughter of Doug Knust.

Knust has worked for the Senate Republican Conference as an internal communications adviser and as a deputy press secretary.

Knust replaces AshLee Strong, who hails from Montana and spent some time growing up in South Dakota. Strong will join the staff at the Senate Republican Conference.
