The South Dakota Department of Transportation began work Wednesday on state Highway 262 between Alexandria and Bridgewater.

Work includes cold milling of the asphalt concrete; culvert extension and replacement; grade raises; shoulder and ditch shaping; and a new asphalt concrete surface.

Traffic through work areas will be controlled by flaggers and a pilot car. Moderate traffic delays should be expected in the work zones, and travel on some portions of the project will be accommodated on gravel surfaces. Motorists should be alert for construction workers and equipment on or near the shoulder of the road.

The prime contractor is Spencer Quarries Inc., of Spencer. The work is expected to be done by Oct. 26.
