Some Sioux Falls summer businesses wilting in heat
Officials say high temperatures in Sioux Falls are keeping customers away from places like golf courses and outdoor recreational centers, and diners are opting to pass on outdoor seating.
SIOUX FALLS (AP) — Some seasonal businesses in South Dakota’s largest city are finding it difficult to beat the heat. Officials say high temperatures in Sioux Falls are keeping customers away from places like golf courses and outdoor recreational centers, and diners are opting to pass on outdoor seating.
Elmwood Golf Course spokesman John Vinning said the heat has curtailed attendance. He says there are few requests for tee times beyond the early morning hours. A spokeswoman for Thunder Road Family Fun Park says the center’s numbers have plunged due to hot weather.
The National Weather Service says the high temperature has been below 85 degrees only 30 percent of the time this summer. The mercury has hit 100 six times in July.
