Sports briefs 7/25: Kernel basketball camp to be held July 30-Aug. 1

The camp — for boys and girls ages kindergarten through eighth grade — will stress individual basketball fundamentals, team concepts and team drills.

It will be held at Mitchell Middle School and directed by Mitchell High School boys’ basketball coach Tom Young. All campers will receive a T-shirt and forms can be picked up at the Mitchell Recreation Center.

Cost of the camp is $30 for ages kindergarten through second grade and $50 for third- through eighth-graders. Contact Young at 999-6826 with questions.

Two-woman scramble to be held at Lakeview

The Lakeview Ladies Golf Association is hosting a two-woman scramble golf tournament Aug. 8 at Lakeview Golf Course.

The event is flighted and is open to players of all levels. You must be 18 years of age to participate. For more information, please call the clubhouse at 995-8460.

KWL Minors team takes fourth at state tourney

BRANDON — The Kimball/White Lake 10-and-under baseball team took fourth place at the Class B Minors state tournament over the weekend.

Members of the team include Nolan Kirsch, Eathen Blasius, Ky Becker, Justin Becker, Riley Pursell, Bennett Namanny, Tre’ Hempel, Lantz Bass, Jacob Borah, Eathen Byrd, Jaxon Christensen, Beau Kirsch, Wyatt Talbott and Hayden Gregory.

Coaches for the team are Charlie Christensen, Shane Namanny and Zac Bass.

Thirsty’s softball team takes third at Division 5 state

ABERDEEN — The Thirsty’s women’s slowpitch softball team took third place at the Division 5 state tournament over the weekend.

Team members include Krista Hegge, Heidi, Beth, Jen and Julie Polreis, Steffanie Cushard, Tami Nebelsick, Amanda Murray, Shelby Boehmer, Amy Blase, Anne Blooack, Bonnie Kressman, Jennifer Johnson, Lisa Goehring and Danielle Erdmann.

Cushard and Julie Polreis were named to the all-tournament team.

Mitchell’s Lehr, Hegg take third at Brandon Open

BRANDON — Mitchell High School tennis players Brenden Lehr and Alex Hegg each took third place in their divisions at the Brandon Junior Open tennis tournament over the weekend.

Hegg took third in the 14-and-under singles division and Lehr took third in the 16-and-under singles division. Hegg paired with Watertown’s Matthrew Gauger in the 14-and-under doubles to claim the championship.
