The Parkston High School girls’ golf team was well represented at the South Dakota Golf Association Junior Championships, held at Bakker Crossing Golf Course in Sioux Falls Monday and concluded Tuesday.
Parkston’s Jordan Bormann won the SDGA Jr. Championship for the girls, carding a two-day score of 151. Her score was five strokes better than second-place Pierre’s Hallie Getz’s 156.
“Winning was really exciting for me,” said Bormann, who competes in the 16-18 age division and will be a senior this fall “Golfing in summer tournaments really helps, and hard work never goes to waste.”
Parkston’s Sydney Bormann, Jordan’s younger sister, took fourth in the same age division, finishing with a two-day score of 171. Sydney Bormann was the Class A state girls’ individual champion in the spring, and the Parkston girls claimed the team state title.
“We get to compete against each other pretty much every day, and that’s a good way for us to get better,” Jordan Bormann said.
The two Bormanns and Sydney Weber, who finished fourth in the 14-15 girls with a two-day 171, each played for Parkston’s state champion golf team in the spring. The 14-15 age group was won by Sioux Falls’ Kelsey Johnson’s 148.
“We all played pretty well,” said Jordan Bormann, who said the highlight of her tournament was having back-to-back birdies in Monday’s round, when she shot a 76. Tuesday, she shot a 75 “I think we should be able to make a strong showing at state again next year and probably post even lower scores.”
Mitchell’s Kristin Sabers shot a 171 in the girls’ 16-18 age group. Sabers, who will be a senior for the Kernels this fall, shot an 81 Monday and a 90 Tuesday.
Riley Duncanson, of Brandon, shot a 151 to claim first in the boys’ 14-15 age group. In area finishers, Drew Seubert, of Canistota, shot a 166 for 10th and Alec Johnson, of Tyndall, shot a 174.
Sioux Falls’ Max Donohue won the boys’ overall title with a two-day 135. In Mitchell-area finishers, Marion’s Arron Lickteig had a 149; Mitchell’s Adam Bleeker had a 155; Mitchell’s Jaron Weich shot a 161; Parkston’s Jake Webet shot a 165; Winner’s Jayden Bruun shot a 170.
