Carpenters take second at SDGA adult-junior tourney

SIOUX FALLS — A father-son Mitchell golf team claimed second place in their age group in the 2012 South Dakota Golf Association Adult-Junior Championship, held Sunday at Bakker Crossing Golf Course in Sioux Falls.

SIOUX FALLS — A father-son Mitchell golf team claimed second place in their age group in the 2012 South Dakota Golf Association Adult-Junior Championship, held Sunday at Bakker Crossing Golf Course in Sioux Falls.

Travis and Cade Carpenter, representing Wild Oak Golf Course, shot a combined score of 80 to tie for second in the 12- to 13-year-old group. They won a tiebreaker to claim second prize after tying with Zane B. and Zane W. Benson, of Brandon.

Ben and Ian Rinken, who fired a 72 to claim the 16- to 18-year-old division, were named the 2012 overall champions.

Scott and Clay Kopplin, of Sturgis, along with Milbank’s Randy and Ryan Patnoe, finished tied for runner-up with a 73.

Dean and Greg Koehn, of Brandon, carded a 77 to claim the 14- to 15-year-old competition.

Mike and Will Grevlos, of Sioux Falls, won the 12- to 13-year-old division with a 73.

In the 11-and-under division, Mike Swartz and Jonah Swartz, of Rapid City, won in a playoff over Jeff and Jack Hilgenberg of Sioux Falls after both teams fired 84.

The teams played 18 holes of alternate-shot golf.
