PRINGLE (AP) — A fire in the Black Hills of nearly 16 square miles is about 40 percent contained.
The media reports that crews secured the southeastern portion of the Myrtle Fire on Sunday, as weather conditions allowed firefighters to conduct the burnout safely while promoting forest health.
Rain over the northern two-thirds of the fire assisted in slowing fire spread.
Crews on Monday were working on mopping up the fire perimeter, a process in which firefighters make sure there are no hot spots near the containment lines. They'll also be clearing any hazard trees along the roads to make sure travel is safe.
