LETTER: Hard to fathom lack of charges in infant death

To the Editor:

I have been following the investigation of the Brooklyn Howard story since hearing of her death on June 19.

In response to the news release today, I am appalled and truly disgusted with the outcome of this case. I simply cannot understand how a daycare provider is not responsible for the care of the children in her home. It appears evident that these children were left unsupervised for an extended time period, if a young child contributed to the death of an infant.

After reading this story today, my heart is very heavy for the entire Brooklyn Howard family. For a family already overwhelmed and grief-stricken with the loss of their infant child, to be told it was just an accident and the daycare provider is not at all responsible is simply unbelievable. Is it really possible that our legal system would allow this to happen?
