Drought conditions in South Dakota have worsened since last week.

The U.S. Drought Monitor Map released its newest data Thursday morning. About 90 percent of the state is in a moderate to severe drought.

Last week, it was about 77 percent.

About 45 percent of the state — mostly the western and southern areas — is in a severe drought. The percent increased from 19 last week.

And conditions across the United States aren’t improving, either.

Almost 81 percent of the country is experiencing drought, with 42.23 percent of the contiguous 48 states in a severe drought.

A heat advisory is in effect in 34 counties in South Dakota. The advisory in Davison County is from 1 p.m. Thursday to 9 p.m. Saturday.
