Platte/Geddes, Corsica win in Region 4B Legion tourney

CORSICA — Platte/Geddes defeated Scotland 27-0 in three innings to move on in the winner’s bracket of the Region 4B Legion baseball tournament Thursday in Corsica.

CORSICA — Platte/Geddes defeated Scotland 27-0 in three innings to move on in the winner’s bracket of the Region 4B Legion baseball tournament Thursday in Corsica.

Trey DeHaan allowed one hit and struck out seven to pick up the win on the mound for Platte/Geddes.

Richard Sternberg went 4-for-5 at the plate, Jon Hoeksema finished 3-for-4 and Drew Tuernis and Kyle Peters each added two hits in the win.

Platte/Geddes takes on Tabor at 5 p.m. today while Scotland will play in the consolation bracket game following the game.

Corsica 7, Irene 5

CORSICA — Zack Milligan hit a two-run double in the top of the eighth inning to give Corsica the lead as the team went on to a 7-5 victory over Irene in the consolation bracket of the Region 4B Legion baseball tournament Thursday in Corsica.

Aaron Groeneweg got the win in relief, throwing 3 2/3 innings with five strikes out and one hit allowed.

Adam Fink was 3-for-5 for Corsica while Branson Tolliver and Dustin Bultje each had two hits.

Ryan Huth took the loss for Irene, pitching the entire game.

With the loss, Irene’s season ended while Corsica takes on Scotland 30 minutes after the 5 p.m. game today in Corsica.
