Matthew Tornquist made his pleas in Pennington County Court in Rapid City Thursday.
The 26-year-old Tornquist is scheduled to make his next court appearance in Hot Springs in mid-August. The media reports that Tornquist is a resident of Hot Springs in Fall River County.
Tornquist's mother, Catherine Tornquist, was reported missing in early October. She has not been found.
A grand jury indicted Matthew Tornquist last week. The indictment accuses him of killing his mother on Oct. 4.
