CANTON (AP) — The former treasurer of the volunteer fire department in the southeast South Dakota city of Tea has pleaded guilty to aggravated grand theft.
Investigators say Denae Baustian embezzled more than $170,000 from the department. According to media reports, authorities said in court on Tuesday that Baustian used the money to gamble.
Baustian faces up to 15 years in prison. Under terms of a plea agreement, prosecutors will seek a 12-year term. A judge must approve.
