The Up and Get it 4-H Club met at 5 p.m. May 19 at the home of Dale and Amy Tlam.
Members put names on the crosses that are used at the Mount Vernon Legion Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
Members and their families had grilled hamburgers and brats. Dessert was furnished by the Gregerson family.
The meeting was called to order by Megan Wieczorek. The American Pledge was lead by Kaitlyn Sandland and the 4-H pledge by Megan Wieczorek.
The roll call topic was “What is your favorite summertime activitiy?’ (chosen by the Gregerson family.) The secretary’s report was given by Emily Wieczorek and approved. The treasurer’s report was given by Lorna Gregerson.
Old business: We will be having a work night soon to make the three raised garden plots for the Mount Vernon Community Garden.
The Project Saturday held April 28 was attended by Lainey, Lorna and Riley Gregerson and Sidney Tlam. They each made two projects to be exhibited at Achievement Days.
New business: The Davison County Livestock Judging School that our club puts on was held June 18. Members agreed to give out certificates to the three top place getters (beginner, junior and senior judges). The club also gave out cash prizes to the top three overall judges ($5, $10 and $15). Members were to bring cookies and the leaders got the drink.
The market sheep, swine and goat rate of gain weigh-in was May 21 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Owner verification sheets were due June 1 for breeding beef, dairy, swine, sheep, meat and dairy goat and horse.
Horse judging school was held May 24.
Each member was encouraged to exhibit one to two exhibits at the county Achievement Days (July 31 and Aug. 1-3).
The Davison County Horse Show was June 25.
Our club was in charge of the concession stand this year. Let the leaders know of any requests for the menu.
The next meeting was at 5 p.m. June 24 at the Mount Vernon School.

Judging school held June 18
The Up and Get it 4-H Club met at 4 p.m. June 24 in the Mount Vernon School.
The meeting was called to order by acting president Tim Deinert. The American Pledge was led by Lainey Gregerson and the 4-H Pledge by Abby Doering.
Roll call topic was “Do you plan on taking a summer vacation and where?” (Chosen by Tim Deinert). The secretary’s report was read and approved. The treasurer’s report was given by Lorna and Abby and approved.
Old business: The Community Garden is going. Helpers to make the three raised boxes and plant the 4-H part were: Dale, Amy Sydney and Logan Tlam; Loren and Riley Gregerson, Tim Deinert, Rod Muhs, Jevon Grace, Brook and Abby Doering. A member of the community is using the three raised sections and one flat section. The 4-H club has planted garden items in the other two flat sections. We are awaiting the insertion of a water hydrant closer to the garden to be done by the school/city.
The judging school was held June 18 at Davison County Fairgrounds. Those that brought livestock for judging were Tlams, Deinerts, Jorgensons and Repennings. The club gave certificates to the top three judges in each level (beginners, juniors and senior). A cash prize supplied by the club was given to the top three overall tape getters. Thanks to those members that also brought cookies. Thank yous will be sent to the Repennings and Jorgensons for their help.
New business: The Davison County Horse Show is June 25.
Reminder that the Davison County Achievement Days is fast approaching: July 31, Aug. 1-3. Each member is encouraged to have one to two exhibits each.
Livestock registrations were due July 2. This includes poultry rabbit, cat, dog, beef swine, sheep, goats and dairy.
Members are encouraged to read the newsletter for upcoming events.
State Fair books were passed out to those members present.
Pre-registration of exhibits is July 20. This is something new this year. You can’t exhibit something that you don’t get pre-registered.
The next meeting will be Thursday, July 12. This will be a picnic at Hitchcock Park. Members can go swimming and the club will pay the fee. We will plan on eating at 6 p.m.
