First-term Republican congresswoman Kristi Noem out-raised her Democratic challenger Matt Varilek more than 2 to 1 during the second quarter of 2012.

Varilek’s campaign reported raising $206,000, while Noem’s campaign distributed a report that says she raised $425,000 between April 1 and June 30.

Varilek says he has raised more than $480,000 since announcing his candidacy in December 2011 and how has $291,000 cash on hand as he heads into the final four months before the November election.

Noem has $1.45 million in the bank, according to reports distributed by her campaign. Varilek says 85 percent of his second-quarter contributions came from South Dakota donors, with an average contribution of $130.

Varilek seeks to unseat Noem from South Dakota’s lone post in the U.S. House of Representatives.
