LOWER BRULE — A 30-year-old Lower Brule woman pleaded guilty July 3 to assault resulting in serious bodily injury after she stabbed another person in December.
Keesha Ewing faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine after she got into a verbal argument with the victim at a party at Ewing’s residence and a physical altercation ensued. The fight escalated and Ewing eventually stabbed the victim in the neck and lower back with a steak knife.
The victim was airlifted to a hospital in Sioux Falls. Six staples were needed to close the stab wound in the victim’s neck and another 10 were needed to close the wound in the victim’s lower back.
A pre-sentence investigation was ordered and sentencing was set for Sept. 25. Ewing was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal’s Service pending sentencing.
