PLATTE — A Platte Main Street business was destroyed by a fire that started early Saturday morning. According to the Platte Police Department, a fire started shortly before 5 a.m. at Shorty’s Bar at 507 S. Main St. in Platte. Fire crews were on the scene shortly after the call came in and extinguished the fire by noon Saturday.
A cause for the fire is not yet known, but a state fire marshal investigator will travel to the scene later in the week.
A representative of the Platte Police Department declined Sunday evening to say whether the fire is considered suspicious or accidental.
It appeared no one was inside the structure when the blaze started and no one was injured.
Platte police did say the building is a total loss, as one of the two parts of the building was destroyed and the other was badly damaged.
Radio Shack and American Family Insurance buildings on Main Street also suffered minor smoke damage and water damage as a result of the fire.
