12-year-old arrested in Wagner toddler death

WAGNER — A 12-year-old juvenile is in custody in connection with the Wednesday death of a 2-year-old girl in rural Wagner.

The investigation into the case is ongoing, says a release issued Thursday afternoon by the Charles Mix County Sheriff’s Office. The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation is also involved.

The 2-year-old girl was discovered in a residence located at 38406 299th St. in rural Wagner. A 911 call from the residence reported that the child was not breathing. The cause of death is under investigation and names are being withheld out of respect for the family, authorities say.
