Performance Pet Products has switched warehouse spaces after reaching a lease agreement to acquire space near Interstate 90 in Mitchell.
President Doak Porter said the newly leased building, formerly used by Van Dyke’s Restorers, will allow for the company to more easily transport goods than its previous location, which is part of the Slumberland building, located at 812 N. Rowley St. Signage at the new site indicates the building will be used for shipping and receiving.
Performance Pet’s new space is 80,000 square feet, bigger than the storage space it had in part of the 44,900-square-feet Slumberland building.
“We’re just a growing company, and this will be a good move for us,” Porter said.
Porter said it may be a few months before Performance Pet is fully moved into the new site.
The new site, located at 1801 Van Dyke Drive, is owned by Cabela’s. The outdoors retailer owned Van Dyke’s until selling the business in 2009. Cabela’s kept the building across the interstate from its store.
Prior to Van Dyke’s, the building was used for shipping by Cabela’s.
The facility has also been used by Herter’s sporting goods in the late 1970s and early 1980s before being purchased by Syncom, a mechanical tape manufacturing company that closed in the late 1990s.
