Mitchell Gold loses two games
BROOKINGS — Mitchell Gold dropped two games to Brookings in teener baseball action Monday in Brookings.
Mitchell lost the first game 14-1 and fell 18-11 in game two.
Luke Bartl suffered the loss in the first game. He gave up six runs in 2/3 of an inning.
Ryker Kreutzfeldt took the loss in game two, going 4 2/3 innings and allowing 10 runs — two earned — while striking out three. Dylanger Pierson was 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs.
Mitchell Gold (13-14) takes on Huron in a doubleheader at 6 p.m. today in Huron.
Dimock/Emery wins 17-7 in league game
DIMOCK — Dimock/Emery defeated Corsica/Stickney 17-7 in eight innings in Sunshine League baseball action on Sunday in Dimock.
Gary Earl took the win for Dimock/Emery. He pitched four innings in relief, gave up one hit, no runs, walked two and struck out three.
Offensively for Dimock/Emery, Jason Schmidt had three hits and four RBIs. Phil Johnson had two hits and three RBIs and Derrick Miller had an RBI single. Jeremy Zens had two hits.
Steven Blom took the loss for Corsica/Stickney. Offensively, Ryan Buck had an RBI single.
Dimock/Emery is now 11-12 overall and 10-3 in the Sunshine League. The team is back in action when it hosts the Parkston Bullheads at 2 p.m. Sunday in Emery. Dimock/Emery also takes on Alexandria at 5 p.m. Sunday in Emery.
Three SDSU coaches to speak at Blarney’s
South Dakota State coaches John Stiegelmeier (football), Aaron Johnston (women’s basketball) and Scott Nagy (men’s basketball) will speak at a social at Blarney’s Sports Bar and Grill, Mitchell, July 16.
The free social is giving SDSU fans a chance to interact one-on-one with Jackrabbit coaches and administrators, hear program updates, enjoy appetizers and win door prizes.
The event starts at 5:30 p.m. and goes to 7:30 p.m. For more information, call 1-866-GoJacks.
Tabor Legion defeats Mount Vernon 8-1
TABOR — Ross Kortan struck out nine in seven innings to help Tabor defeat Mount Vernon 8-1 in Legion baseball action Monday in Tabor.
Nate Kloucek pitched the final two frames for Tabor, striking out three. Tabor got two hits from Alec Weber, Lance Ranek and Mike Kocer. Weber recorded a double in the victory.
Mount Vernon had six team hits and Cody London took the loss on the mound. He struck out one.
Tabor improved to 11-1 on the season and takes on Irene at 6:30 today in Irene.
