• A fee is required at the entrance of TRNP. A seven-day vehicle pass costs $10. Individual passes for those on foot, bike or horse cost $5 and are also good for seven days. Other packages are available, including an annual pass for $20. The park accepts cash, credit card, personal checks and traveler’s checks. Visit www.nps.gov/thro for park calendars, alerts and other information.
• Animals in the park are wild and can be unpredictable. View them from a safe distance. Feeding them is prohibited. Rattlesnakes call the park home, along with bison, prairie dogs, wild horses and bighorn sheep. Be alert when walking.
• Check the weather forecast before visiting as violent thunderstorms can break out.
• When planning hikes, make sure to pack plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen and bug repellant.
• The Badlands can be steep and dangerous, especially when wet. Use caution when hiking. Hikers are also advised to stay on established trails. A map of trails can be found at the Visitor Center.
