PIERRE — A state board approved financing Friday for a variety of drinking water and sewer projects planned by South Dakota communities.

The Board of Water and Natural Resources voted in favor of a $1,040,000 loan to Aberdeen for replacing and upgrading the Elm River intake. The loan rate is 3 percent interest for 20 years.

The Tripp County Water Users District won approval for a $850,000 loan for a replacement water tower with 100,000-gallon capacity at Fairfax. The loan will be at 3 percent interest for 20 years.

Big plans in Mobridge also received the board’s backing. A state loan for $1,212,000 was approved to help pay for a $1.7 million replacement of the water tower, and a $764,000 loan was okayed for storm sewer upgrades.

The new water tower will have a capacity of 600,000 gallons, six times that of the old tower. That loan will be at2.25 percent interest for 30 years. The storm-sewer loan will be at 3 percent interest for 30 years.

The Mid-Dakota Rural Water System will get a loan $719,000 to install a new 150,000-gallon storage tank to serve the Redfield area. The loan will be at 3 percent interest for 30 years.

The Perkins County Rural Water System is getting what amounts to a $131,000 grant to install a booster station as its final component. The state board approved a loan in that amount, with the principal forgiven.
