New fire starts near Edgemont
Firefighters battling two forest fires in the Black Hills are moving closer to containing the blazes. However, it was also reported Friday night that a new fire had started.
Firefighters battling two forest fires in the Black Hills are moving closer to containing the blazes. However, it was also reported Friday night that a new fire had started.
The Dakota Fire southwest of Rapid City is now 60 percent contained, and evacuation warnings have been lifted for 18 homes and structures in the area.
Crews were continuing to mop up on the 135-acre Crow Peak fire. Incident Commander Brian Daunt anticipated that the fire would be fully contained sometime Friday evening.
Meanwhile, the White Draw fire was burning more than 100 acres five miles northeast of Edgemont, near Red Canyon.
As of late Friday night, three helicopters and an air tanker were helping attack the fire.
