To the Editor:
On June 26, the planning committee held a public meeting on proposed changes in the city zoning code. About 15 citizens attended the meeting, speaking out or showing their disapproval of this change. Every district in the zoning code allows alcohol sales except neighborhood shopping.
Where does it stop?
We should have some place to live and raise our children and grandchildren without alcohol sales present.
After discussion, the planning committee passed the code change, against the public disagreement, and sent it on to the City Council.
Before one more child in Mitchell is hurt because of alcohol sales, especially if allowed in our neighborhoods, something needs to be done.
I urge all of you to call all of our city councilmen and voice your disapproval also. Attend the City Council meetings and let them know that on-sale alcohol sales should be kept out of our neighborhoods.
On-sale liquor sales also opens up the change of gambling and casinos. These are not needed in our neighborhoods either.
Thank you for your support.
