Crow Peak Fire near Spearfish 80 percent contained

RAPID CITY (AP) — Officials battling the Crow Peak Fire in western South Dakota's Black Hills say they have "turned the corner" and mop-up operations are under way.

RAPID CITY (AP) — Officials battling the Crow Peak Fire in western South Dakota's Black Hills say they have "turned the corner" and mop-up operations are under way.

The fire is estimated at 133 acres and 80 percent contained. It has been burning in the Spearfish area since being touched off by lightning last weekend. About 120 people remain fighting the fire but some will be released to help on other fires, including the Dakota Fire near Sheridan Lake southwest of Rapid City.

That fire remains at about 300 acres and 30 percent contained. Nearly 130 firefighters are battling the blaze. The lake remains closed to boats.
