2 Trail of Governors statues to be installed

PIERRE (AP) — Two statues for the Trail of Governors project are expected to be installed at their permanent locations on Thursday.

PIERRE (AP) — Two statues for the Trail of Governors project are expected to be installed at their permanent locations on Thursday.

The media reports that Pierre city crews plan to place the bronze, life-sized statues of former Gov. Harlan J. Bushfield and former Gov. Walter D. Miller at their selected locations at 10 a.m. The statue of Bushfield will be placed on the corner of Sioux Avenue and Pierre Street. The Miller statue will be placed on the corner of East Capital Avenue and Highland Avenue.

The third statue unveiled this year of former Gov. Arthur C. Mellette will be placed on the sidewalk in front of the Hughes County Courthouse at a later date.

Statues of all former South Dakota governors will be placed around the state Capitol and downtown Pierre.
