Rapid City woman ordered into treatment after probation violations

A 22-year-old Rapid City woman was ordered to spend at least two years in an inpatient drug treatment program after violating two conditions of her probation.

Cassandra Wright had a five-year prison sentence reinstated and immediately re-suspended by Judge Sean O’Brien on Tuesday after admitting May 29 to violating her probation by missing a mandatory sobriety test in October for the state 24/7 Sobriety program and failing to get her GED by Sep. 30. Wright was put on probation for a possession of a controlled substance conviction.

“We’re hopeful that she will be able to get her life on track,” said Wright’s attorney, Doug Papendick, of Mitchell. “We’re asking the court to give Cassandra a chance here.”

Wright has already been to a treatment facility six times.

O’Brien said Wright must successfully complete the treatment program, or she risks having a five-year prison sentence reimposed.

Wright will remain in custody at the Davison County Jail until she is admitted to the treatment program.
