By: Staff reports, The Daily Republic

At least two individuals suspected to have been involved in a recent theft at Village Bowl in Mitchell are in custody in South Dakota.

Local authorities suspect two men in custody in another jurisdiction in the state may have been involved in the theft of an undisclosed amount of money from three video lottery machines inside Village Bowl, according to Mitchell Public Safety Chief Lyndon Overweg.

The money was reported missing June 21.

The suspects in custody have not been charged by the Mitchell police in connection with the incident, but are suspected to have been involved in a string of similar thefts across the state.

“Our investigation continues,” Overweg said. “We’ll know more in a couple of days.”

The names of the suspects have not been released, and information regarding where they were arrested and what other crimes they may be charged with was not immediately available, he said.
