Aberdeen man aces Lakeview’s No. 12 hole

Jon Knott, of Aberdeen, recorded a hole-in-one during the Farmers Union Fundraiser Tournament Tuesday at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell.

The shot was Knott’s second hole-in-one. He aced the 156-yard No. 12 hole with a 7-iron.

Brandon Valley, DR Mudcats hold top rankings

Brandon Valley has taken over the top spot in Class A in this week’s state amateur baseball rankings, it was announced Tuesday. The Renner Monarchs are second, Pierre in third, Sioux Falls in fourth and Yankton and the Vermillion Red Sox are tied for fifth place.

In Class B, the Dell Rapids Mudcats still hold the first-place spot. Crofton, Neb., is second, Canova is third, Redfield is fourth, Salem is fifth, the Parkston Mudcats are sixth, Wynot, Neb., is seventh, Dimock-Emery is eighth, Clark is ninth and Larchwood, Iowa, and Harrisburg are tied for 10th place.

Parkston Mudcats top Freeman in non-league action

FREEMAN — The Parkston Mudcats topped Freeman 14-3 in non-league amateur baseball action Tuesday.

Parkston’s Bo Bruinsma picked up the win, throwing six innings and allowing six hits and three runs. He struck out six and walked five.

Offensively for the Mudcats, Brady Nolz had a two-run home run, a double and a single, Jeff Harris had a two-run home run and a single and Cody Freudenthal had a two-run homer.

Freeman’s Mitch Wallman took the loss and Lee and Allen Scherschligt each had two hits.

The Mudcats are 13-3 overvall and 8-1 in the Sunshine League. Parkston plays at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Alexandria.

Moody to compete in national junior high rodeo

Bailey Moody, of Forestburg, will be competing at the National Junior High School Rodeo in Gallup, N.M. for the third year in a row.

She will be competing in the Pole Bending and Ribbion Roping. Moody is also the South Dakota Pole Bending representative for the National Cinch Team. The finals will take place June 24-30.

Running club to host 5K, 10K in Mitchell on July 4

The Dakota Plains Running Club will be hosting a 5K and a 10K road race on the Fourth of July in Mitchell. These races will begin at the Pepsi Cola Soccer Complex at 8:30 a.m.

Pre-registration is encouraged, but race day registration is available from 7:15 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. For more information, go to dakotarunningclub.com

Corsica tops South Central

CORSICA — The Corsica Legion baseball team defeated South Central 15-0 in six innings Tuesday night in Corsica.

Ryan Hongslo was the winning pitcher for Corsica. He gave up no runs, allowed three hits and struck out 13. Aaron Groeneweg had a double, three singles and three RBIs. Adam Fink scored four runs on two hits and Hongslo and Kris Menning each had two hits for Corsica.

Dustin Stukel took the loss for South Central.

Corsica is 4-1 and is back in action at 7 p.m. Monday when it travels to Burke to take on South Central.

White splits doubleheader

The Mitchell White teener baseball team split a doubleheader against Sioux Falls West Tuesday at Drake Field in Mitchell.

Mitchell won the first game 17-2, while West took the second game 9-7.

Spencer Neugebauer was the winning pitcher for White in the first game. He threw all four innings and had four strikeouts. He allowed two earned runs.

Offensively, Ross Yeo was 3-for-3 with a walk, a double, three runs scored and a stolen base, Sam Michels went 3-for-4 with a triple and Matt Muth went 2-for-3 with three runs scored.

Muth was the starting pitcher for Mitchell in the second game, throwing four innings. Michels pitched the final three innings and took the loss.

Neugebauer went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Michels went 2-for-3 and had six RBIs.

White (8-6) plays in a tournament this weekend in its next action. The team’s first game is at noon Friday in Spearfish.
