LEAD (AP) — The city of Lead has collected almost $242,000 in sales tax for the first quarter of the year.
This is about $25,000 more than the same period in 2011.
According to media reports, the city's third penny sales tax collections for 2012 are also up. The city has collected nearly $16,000, compared to $11,500 during the same period last year.
The third penny sales tax is collected from hospitality-related businesses in Lead for hotel, motel, liquor, bar and restaurant sales.
City Administrator Mike Stahl says he is pleased with the numbers, especially since spring is typically a slower time for businesses.
